NOTE TO NEW READER:

Although you don't need to read the shiva trilogy to understand ram Chandra series, but it would be fun if you read it so,  since both series take place in the same universe.ram Chandra series is in a way a prequel to siva trilogy.

SYSNOPIS:

The story is based on ramayana with some logical twist made for the mordern audience. scion of ikshvaku starts from the kiddnapping of sita in the first chapter and suddenly jumps back in time to the birth of ram.and end with kiddnapping of sita in the last chapter.

AUTHOR:

Amish tripathi is an indian writer and the author of siva trilogy which comprises of three books, 1.immortals of meluha 2. secrets of naga 3. oath of vayuputhra.

These books are bestsellers crossing 2 million marks, and amish is ranked as top 100 celebrities of India thrice in a row 2012-2014.

SCION OF IKSHVAKU:

Following the siva trilogy which tells us the story of lord Siva. scion of ikshvaku was first of ram chandra series. it explains the story of lord ram's journey from an inauspicious child to the god we worship now.the story took place in the same universe as Siva trilogy. it also doesn't fail to mention the concept of vishnu and mahadev. it gave us more back story on lord rudra.

Even though the story was well written, it somehow failed to deliver the awe in siva trilogy. the story is mythical fiction and it should stay true to it. I appreciate author's rage against Delhi gang rape but imposing that in the story was unnecessary.

VOCABULARY:

Simple and elegant, it is not the type of book where you need the dictionary for each word. more than simple words, appropriate words are used making it easy for the reader to focus.

Brilliant narration, after the first two chapter I thought it would be nonlinear writing but thankfully it's not. the first chapter is to create a dramatic effect and it succeeded.

The narration and word choice made the story so gripping that you can finish this book in a single night.

OVERALL THOUGHT:

Siva trilogy has a deeper philosophical idea supported by mythological theme. scion of ikshvaku, on the other hand, addresses the social problem in mythological setup. which I personally don't  recommend. but worked with the overall population. Amish  nailed it again.

RATING: 3 out of 5.
