NOTE TO NEW READERS:
this is a book is illness and death which portrait with a beautiful romance. if you are a teenager, be sure you have your napkins ready.
SYNOPSIS:
two teenagers who brought together by cancer.the book is narrated by hazel graze 16 yr old teenager who has stage IV thyroid cancer which made it through her lungs. this made her hard to breathe she has to carry an oxygen tank with her always.
Augustus waters 17 yr old teenager suffered from osteosarcoma which made him lose his one leg. both of the meet in a cancer support group.
the book is centered around a fictional book "AN IMPERIAL AFFLICTION" written by a "PETER VAN HOUTEN". which is about a girl dying of cancer. the book ends in a middle of a sentence.
hazel consider this book as her bible because this portraits exactly what's she's going through. hazel is dying(literally) to meet peter van Houten and to ask him about the end of the book.so Augustus uses his dying wish to make hazel's dream come true.
so they went to Amsterdam to meet peter, but it turns out that peter was an old despicable alcoholic asshole, he shouted at them and threw them out of his house. later hazel and Augustus went to an awesome romantic dinner and they lost each other virginity that night.after that trip from Amsterdam Augustus health got worse and their love got stronger.
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS:
the story is well written, sad, romantic journey. it is praised by million reader and journals, the movie adaptation is a blockbuster.
but the story lacks ingenuity in characters, I never get the feeling that they are teenagers, they feel like middle age people, of course, they are in the race against death but still they are teenagers with hormones and mood swings.
john green writes teenagers as adults, they are really mature with philosophical ideas and vocabulary skills, their characters are so mature that it overtops their parents.
OVERALL THOUGHT:
the book is so emotional, and the romance intense, it's a brilliant book in a way. even though it's a story about teenagers, parents should read it first and decide whether they want the children to read it or not.
